The Whole Chick-Fil-A Thang Summed Up

The Whole Chick-Fil-A Thang Summed Up

So yesterday was Chick-Fil-A appreciation day. Why exactly are we suppose to appreciate a corporation? Don't we do that every day by choice using the free market via the mighty power of capitalism?

Well, if you're living under a rock or just don't give a shit enough about a chicken only fast food franchise, it's very simple. They're owned by fundamentalists and recently the CEO came out and said the standard bullshit you'd expect a conservative 'fuck you, got mine' asshole would say about gay marriage. This reminded people that his company donates a shit ton of money to all sorts of nasty causes and organization. In turn, those with some moral fiber and ethics threatened to boycott their shitty company on the grounds that money spent there will just eventually go to these hate causes.

At this point the people who think that freedom of speech means freedom from criticism tossed a temper tantrum about the idea that others would not want to give money to a company who will giver their profits to such hate groups. And as an act of maturity decided to buck the idea of a protest against the company and went ahead and decided to kill themselves with chicken sandwiches.

In fact, some chick-fil-a's had lines out the door and down the street. Police had to direct traffic around the drive-thru lines that went on for blocks. Many people sat by themselves in their cars for two hours with the engine idling and the AC blasting to buy some rubbery plain tasting chicken nuggets for Jesus and prove whatever they were hoping to prove.

Why yes, this is America... sorry, I mean to say 'Merica!

While I believe that everybody has an opinion and letting your opinion be known is okay if it ins't rude or trying to over-power people to force what you believe on them. I still stand by belief that the CEO of Chick-fil-a is a bloody fucking moron. He really has no business pushing his ideas of marriage on others. If he wanted to push his ideas on how to prepare a chicken sandwich, that's fine. But what does pushing his beliefs do to better the business -or for that matter even have anything to do with chicken in the first place.

On the flip side, I don't need my friends and everyone I know telling me NOT to go to Chick-fil-a. This notion of pushing for a protest isn't very helpful. How about trying to do something productive like volunteering at a homeless shelter, summer day camp or find a service organization in your area.

This goes to everyone. How about you try to help America instead of hurt it. In the case of Chick-fil-a, you're hurting those by denying them a choice in the matter. How about if we just made chickens illegal. Would leave you up shit creek in terms of being able to sell anything. So perhaps those who are gay want to get married. As a business, who the fuck are you to push for that shit to stay illegal?

How about focusing on your own goddamn profits. Straight or gay, money is money and it's always green no matter what the lifestyle of the person handing it to you may be.
